With a line-up that is as rich and varied as ever, the focus is on creating meaningful experiences for all festival-goers. The 2025 theme, FREE TO BE, honours the decades-long fight for equality while celebrating the individuality and collective strength of our vibrant community. It's a call to embrace who we are and continue the work that remains to ensure freedom for all.

While traditionally held on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, Mardi Gras festivities can be enjoyed year-round, infusing any occasion with a "carnival-esque" feel. Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras 2024 is set to surpass all expectations, presenting a colossal line-up of over 150 performers across the Festival’s key events. This year’s festival brilliantly showcases an array of global stars, comedians, drag and performance artists, and top-tier international and local DJs, reflecting the rich diversity and dynamic energy of the LGBTQIA+ community.
The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is primarily held in Sydney, Australia, with the main event, the Mardi Gras Parade, taking place along Oxford Street, one of the city’s most iconic LGBTQIA+ neighborhoods. The parade travels from the heart of Darlinghurst, through Surry Hills, and ends at Moore Park. Other festival events are held across various venues throughout Sydney, including performances, parties, and cultural exhibitions at locations such as The Domain, Hyde Park, and the Sydney Cricket Ground for the grand afterparty.
