With close ties to our school, parish and local communities we regularly visit and participate in events to help children build diverse relationships and understand their connections to a broader world. Through these experiences our teachers will nurture your child’s growth in accordance with the key developmental areas identified in the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines. Our teachers will nurture your child’s love of learning throughout their kindergarten year and ensure they develop the skills for a successful transition to prep. In long day care centres the kindergarten children get to enjoy additional experiences outside of the kindergarten program.
Our centre has been designed long day care centres oakleigh to serve the Oakleigh South community with high-quality childcare and early education services, all aimed at supporting children on their learning journeys. A sessional kindergarten program is a structured early childhood education program  that typically operates for a set number of hours each week (generally 15 hours spread over several days). During play children feel supported and at ease, so we use this opportunity to develop a love of learning that will continue to grow with them. Children have a strong voice in the creation of our kindergarten programs, as we create learning experiences based on their strengths, abilities and interests.

The day usually ends with a calm wind-down session, such as storytime, music, or quiet reflection. This helps children transition smoothly from kindergarten to home, giving them time to process the day  and develop self-regulation skills. Teachers often share brief updates with parents, highlighting achievements, milestones, or memorable moments from the day. Teachers greet children individually, helping them settle in and reconnect with friends.

Check what state-funded preschool options are available in your area, then compare the total cost (including any additional care needed) against a long day care centre with CCS applied. The right answer depends on your work hours, your budget, and what's available locally. Most states offer funded preschool for children turning 4 in the year before school.

Many families use a combination of options over time — for example, long day care in the early years, followed by preschool or OSHC once school begins. There is no single “right” choice — only the one that fits your child and your lifestyle at this moment. As part  of our School Readiness Program, our children attend excursions to school in Term 4, which introduces a sense  familiarity with their new Teacher, classroom, and playground whilst amongst their Kinder friends. Occasional care is designed to allow parents to get some rest or exercise, or attend an appointment or job interview. Some centres are set up for occasional care only and do not have a meal service or space for naps as their sessions might typically run for one or 2 hours.

For many parents, the key benefit of kindergarten in a long day care setting is that children receive a full kindergarten program, but also receive care during the early morning, late afternoon or early evening. Most Catholic EarlyEd Care long day care services open by 7.00 am, and close around 6.00 pm. Many working parents find this more convenient as they would otherwise need to collect children at 2.45 pm when kindergarten finishes.
The main difference is the extended hours of care offered at a long day care centre for families who need extended hours of care. Both formats offer approved kindergarten programs and are delivered by qualified early childhood teachers and they cover exactly the same material, over the same period time. Teachers follow the approved kindergarten learning guidelines which are based on the curriculum and are play based. Long day care and sessional kindergartens are​ centre-based settings that provide play-based education and care programs to children, including curriculum-based kindergarten programs.

For those children who will attend that primary school in the future it can be a great way of getting to know the other children and staff. Our sessional kindergartens provide an excellent setting for young children to develop confidence and familiarity in a school-like environment. Sessional kindergarten offers many benefits including the development of a school like routine. Consistently attending during school hours and the structure of a kindergarten day with meal times, indoor and outdoor play all occurring at the same time each day can help young children feel more ready to start school.
